In June 2025 BPFI and FPAI, in collaboration with Accenture, were delighted to host a member event on the Digital Euro in Accenture’s offices, bringing together over 60 industry representatives for a timely discussion on one of the most significant developments in the future of payments.
The event reflected strong member engagement and growing industry interest in the potential design, implementation and impact of a Digital Euro. Following opening remarks from BPFI’s Chief Executive Brian Hayes and Ray Daly, Managing Director, Accenture, attendees heard a keynote address from Anne Marie McKiernan, Director of Financial Operations, Central Bank of Ireland, setting the scene for an insightful and wide-ranging discussion.
A panel of experts from across the financial ecosystem then explored the opportunities, challenges and practical considerations associated with a Digital Euro. The discussion featured Martin Langan, Head of Function, Central Bank of Ireland; Josh Hogan, Partner at McCann FitzGerald LLP; Jules Fouquet, Deputy Head of Payments Policy at Payments Europe; Gillian Byrne, Head of Payments, Banking & Payments Federation Ireland; and Katrina Mellett, Senior Manager and Dr. Nils Beier, Accenture Strategy Lead.
