FPAI and Square co-hosted Irish Presidency Kick-Off: Shaping Fintech Leadership in Europe on 2 July, bringing together members, policymakers and industry stakeholders to discuss Ireland’s opportunity to help shape Europe’s fintech agenda.
The event featured a keynote by Regina Doherty MEP, who shared insights on key EU legislative developments, including the PSD2 Review and the Digital Euro, and their relevance as Ireland prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This was followed by a panel discussion with Regina Doherty MEP, John O’Beirne, Chair of FPAI and CEO and Executive Director of Squareup International, Brian Hayes, CEO, BPFI and was moderated by Leah Donnelly, Head of FPAI. Here they discussed how Ireland can strengthen its position as a leading European fintech hub through a competitive Single Market, proportionate regulation and a policy environment that supports innovation, investment and growth.
Attended by approximately 40 members, prospective members and industry stakeholders, the event provided a valuable forum for engagement on the future of fintech policy in Europe and Ireland’s role in shaping it.
